If you’re like me, you are concerned about the nasty chemicals in commercial shaving products and you want to have control over what’s going on your skin. Finding the right recipe can be a real time-saver. Based on my research and repeated trials, here is the best DIY shaving lotion.
Many of the recipes on the internet have too many weird ingredients, are too greasy, or too runny. This recipe is simple and creates a nice creamy lotion that soothes and conditions the skin when you shave. I particularly like this DIY shaving lotion because it easily washes out of the tub. Other recipes I have tried left an oil slick making the bathtub a danger zone and difficult to clean.
1/2 cup distilled water
1/4 cup aloe gel
1/4 cup liquid castile soap
2 tablespoons sweet almond oil (or other oil of your choosing)
1/2 teaspoon guar gum (for thickening)
10 drops essential oils (rosemary and lavender are nice)
Mix all ingredients with a stick blender and pour into a pump dispenser. If you like a very thick lotion, use 1 teaspoon of guar gum. Right after mixing the lotion will be pour-able, but will thicken upon standing. So, get it into the bottle right away!
