Cajun Seasoning

I’m not Cajun, but I love the seasoning!

There is something deeply satisfying about this seasoning mix.  It’s pleasant on the tongue and comforting in the belly, imparting an overall calm feeling after eating a meal.  That may sound like hyperbole, but from my perspective, it’s the gospel.  I’d go so far as to say it can heal the soul.  Now, I’ve never been to Louisiana (well, not yet anyway), so I can’t claim this recipe is authentic, but I hope it’s a good approximation.  If not, just know that it’s really delicious.  I experience the flavors as subtle, yet evocative.  Hope you do too!

You can skip the store bought seasoning and use this concoction in your favorite Cajun/Creole recipes.  My favorite use is in Sweet Potato Stew.

Cajun seasoning blend for use in Cajun/Creole recipes.

  • 4 TBS Paprika
  • 3 TBS Sea Salt
  • 2 TBS Basil
  • 2 TBS Garlic Powder
  • 2 TBS Onion Powder
  • 2 TBS Oregano
  • 1 TBS Black Pepper
  • 1 TBS Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 TBS Smoked Paprika
  • 1 TBS Thyme
  • 1 TBS White Pepper
  1. Combine all dried spices in a bowl and mix thoroughly.
  2. Pour into air-tight spice jar.
