This naan is super easy to make! Made with primal/paleo ingredients, this whips up in 30 minutes. Sure, it's not like traditional naan, but it's a pretty good substitute. If you're committed to the primal/paleo lifestyle and you like Indian or Mediterranean food, you'll want this recipe! With a few adjustments you can make this into just about any proxy for flatbread or tortillas...
Recipe type: Bread
Cuisine: Indian
Serves: 4 servings
  • 1 tablespoon: chia seeds (ground)
  • 3 tablespoons: coconut flour
  • 2 tablespoons: arrowroot powder
  • ¼ teaspoon: salt
  • ¼ teaspoon: baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon: baking powder
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • ½ cup: milk (or water or kefir or almond milk)
  1. Pre-heat oven and pizza stone to 450 degrees.
  2. Combine dry ingredients in a bowl (ground chia seeds, coconut flour, salt, arrowroot powder, baking soda, and baking powder).
  3. Combine wet ingredients in a bowl (beaten eggs, milk).
  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and mix to combine.
  5. Let sit for 10 minutes so dry ingredients absorb wet ingredients.
  6. Spread dough very thinly onto parchment paper with a spatula. Dip spatula in water so it does not stick to dough.
  7. Remove pizza stone from oven. Place parchment paper with dough on pizza stone and return to oven.
  8. Bake until top is golden brown (10-15 minutes).
  9. Serve warm.
I use a coffee grinder to freshly grind chia seeds to prevent them from going stale. Also, white seeds look more appealing than black seeds. But, black seeds are all I can find locally and will do. Black seeds were used in the photo.
